Strawberry Shortcake Iced Matcha Latte – Just Like Blank Street’s, Only Better!

Here at Mikata Matcha, we’ve been seeing the Strawberry Shortcake Iced Matcha from Blank Street all over TikTok and Instagram. It’s no surprise why. It’s creamy, colourful and tastes just like dessert. But like most Blank Street drinks, it can cost quite a bit and that cost adds up quickly if you love matcha as much as we do.

So we set out to recreate it at home using real strawberry, vanilla and our ceremonial-grade matcha. The result is just as indulgent, with a rich flavour that balances sweetness and depth. And it’s much better value.

This recipe is energising, refreshing and ideal for summer afternoons.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Mikata Matcha powder
  • 60ml hot water (around 80°C, just before boiling)
  • 150ml milk of choice (oat or whole milk work best)
  • 2 tbsp strawberry purée (or strawberry jam)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp sweetened condensed milk (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Vegan alternative: Use oat milk and swap condensed milk for a splash of coconut cream mixed with maple syrup.

Equipment:

  • Matcha bowl or small mixing bowl
  • Bamboo whisk or regular whisk
  • Spoon or milk frother
  • Serving glass

Instructions:

  1. In your glass, stir together the milk, strawberry purée, vanilla and condensed milk until fully combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, sift the matcha powder, add the hot water, and whisk until smooth and frothy.
  3. Add ice to the glass of strawberry milk.
  4. Slowly pour the whisked matcha over the top to create a layered effect.
  5. Stir gently before drinking, or leave it layered for a visual treat.

Why it works:

Mikata Matcha is made from ceremonial-grade leaves sourced from Uji, Japan. Its smooth, grassy flavour holds up beautifully against the sweet strawberry milk, creating a balanced drink that feels like a treat but still delivers focus and energy. The layering gives it that premium café feel — only better, and cheaper.

Tips:

  • If using jam, choose one with a high fruit content and stir it well into the milk
  • Add sliced strawberries for texture and presentation
  • For a vegan version, use oat milk and a coconut cream and maple syrup blend instead of condensed milk
