Blank Street Iced Matcha Latte at home!

Here at Mikata Matcha, there are few things we love more than Blank Street, particularly their Iced Matcha Latte. One thing we love even more than Blank Street's Iced Matcha is making it at home for a fraction of the cost.

We thought we'd share our recipe with you. Remember, you can add flavoured syrups too. Our favourite is white chocolate!

Here’s how to do it!

Ingredients:
● 2 teaspoons Mikata Matcha powder
● 1 cup hot water (about 80°C or 175°F, but not boiling)
● 1 cup milk (dairy or any plant-based alternative like almond, oat, or coconut
milk - we strongly recommend Califia Farm Oat Milk)
● 1-2 tablespoons flavoured syrup, honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
● Ice cubes (optional, for serving cold)

Equipment:
● Matcha bowl (Chawan) or small mixing bowl
● Bamboo whisk (Chasen) or small regular whisk
● Small saucepan or microwave-safe container
● Glass or mug for serving

Instructions:
● Prepare the Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a matcha bowl or small
mixing bowl to prevent lumps. Add about 2 ounces of the hot water to the
matcha powder. Whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion using a bamboo whisk
until the mixture is frothy.
● Heat the Milk: Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat or in the
microwave until just warm. Do not let it boil as overheated milk can taste
burnt and will affect the delicate flavors of the matcha. If you like your latte
sweetened, stir in the honey or your chosen sweetener into the warm milk.
● Combine and Serve: Pour the frothy matcha into a large mug or glass. Gently
add the warm milk to the matcha, pouring slowly to maintain some of the
froth on top. Stir gently to mix just before drinking if you prefer a consistent
flavor throughout.
For Iced Matcha Latte:
● Fill a glass with ice cubes.
● Pour the prepared matcha over the ice.
● Follow with the sweetened cold milk.
● Stir well and enjoy immediately.

Tips:
● Always use water that is just under a boil to prepare matcha to prevent
scalding the powder and turning it bitter.
● For an extra touch of sweetness and flavor, consider adding vanilla extract or
cinnamon to the milk as it heats.
● If using a plant-based milk, oat milk is particularly good for lattes as it froths
well and has a naturally sweet flavor that compliments matcha.

Enjoy your homemade Blank Street Iced Matcha Latte!
